During mud logging, the quality and quantity of hundreds of data from the drilling rocks and fluids are recorded to better understand the downhole lithology and to evaluate the worth of the drilling spot. Hydrocarbons are stored in limestone rocks the detection of Carbonate percentages determine the mining progress. Moreover, the percentage of Dolomite in the analysed rock specimens is indication of oil and natural gas presence.
Conforms with EN ISO 10693:2013, ASTM D4373-02(2007), and ASTM D1756-02(2007) standards for the calculation of calcite/dolomite ratio in soil and sediments samples.
Chemical equation:
CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(l) → CaCl2(l) + CO2(g) + H2O(l)
CaMg(CO3)2(s) + 4HCl(l) → CaCl2(l) + MgCl2(l) + 2CO2(g) + 2H2O(l)
